It all began with a shared vision for the Department of Construction and Environment of the Canton of Thurgau. This was anchored in the image of a 'House of Building', providing orientation for attitude, collaboration and spatial development. It created clarity about how the department wants to work, lead and use space in the future. Building on this, we had the privilege of supporting the overarching transformation project for the Promenade administrative building (VGP) across the workstreams of people, space and organisation. Around 350 employees from four offices were involved participatively from the outset. They actively helped shape the areas of their offices and defined the ground rules for the new working environment themselves. Today there are no more individual offices at the VGP. Work takes place in different zones – tailored to activities, exchange and focus. Workstations are shared, floor space is used efficiently and vacancies are avoided. This creates a responsible use of resources and a modern, team-oriented working culture. Strategically, the project was championed by Government Councillor Dominik Diezi, who personally accompanied the transformation and thereby set a clear example for future-ready public administration.
