For the UGZ of the City of Zurich, we had the opportunity to shape a transformation process that placed future collaboration at its heart. In cross-departmental workshops, needs were sharpened, challenges openly discussed and a shared vision developed. The three supporting pillars of the process were participation, communication and skill-building. Employees were actively involved, changes were made transparent, and new forms of collaboration were not only defined but practised together. This created confidence amid change and clarity in everyday work. Particularly exciting was the review after around 1.5 years in the new working environment with flex desks, team bases and activity-based work zones. The verdict was consistently positive: the new settings were embraced, collaboration worked noticeably better and the culture continued to develop. The clear insight: there will always be things that can still be improved – and we call that a learning organisation.
