For the unicorn of the desert, we built a small museum in the middle of the zoo.
Project Duration: 2017 - 2018

As the main sponsor of Zurich Zoo, ewz had, prior to this project, several exhibits at various locations throughout the zoo addressing sustainable energy topics. After more than five years, these were now due for a revamp.
Following a competitive tender, THE SPATIALISTS were commissioned to replace the scattered exhibits with an exhibition in the oryx antelope house. To this end, we developed the spatial and content-related exhibition concept as well as the design, and carried out the conversion.
The result is an interdisciplinary exploration of the desert habitat and its inhabitants. The transparent display cases, used on both sides, activate both the exterior and the interior of the pavilion while opening up different perspectives. In this way, we consider the themes of drought, solar use, sun protection and cooling from the point of view of the animals and the Bedouins, but also from that of modern society and electricity production and use.
