The centrally located and heritage-protected city hotel Leoneck is undergoing a complete renovation. Across a total of ten floors and spread over two buildings, we are breathing new life into the old hotel.
The inspiration for the design came from Zurich, the city on the Limmat, itself, as well as from the heritage-protected reddish-brown tiled façade that defines the character of the building and became the starting point of our design.
Our colour and material concept is deliberately rooted in this historic substance. The striking red tones of the façade find their way inside and form the first step of a careful transformation in design. High-quality wall tiles pick up the original hue but reinterpret it with subtle variations that bring freshness and modernity. This creates a flowing transition from outside to inside – respectful of what already exists and, at the same time, open to the new. Further into the spaces, harmonious blues and greens broaden the atmosphere. They anchor the project even more firmly in Zurich, the home of founder Fred Tschanz, and unfold ever more fully until they reach their climax in the design of the headboards – once again in the form of carefully placed tiles. Everything is still in the middle of construction, but the anticipation is great: step by step, a place is emerging that brings history and the present into a natural dialogue – creating something that feels familiar and, at the same time, boldly looks ahead.
